We are living in a society in which handicapped people are often considered “different”.
As a result, they are discriminated against or just plain ignored.
An organization based in Palermo named “Futuro Semplice” was founded by the parents of mentally handicapped children. Its goal is to give support to those over 18 years old, who receive no assistance or benefits from the government.
Back in 2001, Meri started to support this organization. When the authorities decided to close the small community, Meri increased its contributions. As a result, the handicapped children can continue to be taught to express themselves and their feelings through arts and crafts.
